EXHIBITION
Masaho Anotani
Border of Wonder, Disorder You Shine
25/Aug/2018 - 6/Oct/2018
Masaho Anotani combines various media such as drawing, collage and spray painting, and depicts instinct, epidermal sensations, observations, doubts, and impulses, sometimes in direct ways and sometimes in surreal ways. His work has attracted attention from the fields of fashion and design, and he has presented many collaborations with fashion brands including COMME des GARCONS and ZUCCa. In 2016 his work was featured in STEIDL - WERK No. 23: MASAHO ANOTANI “DEFORMED”, created by the celebrated Singaporean designer Theseus Chan and the publisher STEIDL.
“Light” is a keyword for this exhibition. Anotani contributes a poem and a statement:
We are moving towards the time of losing humanity.
Everything moves at high speed beyond recognition, overflowing from our hands.
These noises are accumulated quietly, piling up so high that they even look down on us.
Being ruled by something insubstantial.
I have stopped trying to catch up with it.
Sunlight filtering through trees, morning dew, river surfaces, people and places I like, music, good food… Each is just an ephemeral light in that particular moment.
I proceed at the speed I live. Towards myself, you, and the light.
Everyone actually knows it.
I want to shine, and want to be illuminated.
This exhibition will feature new works, including works on Japanese paper mounted onto panels, as well as wall drawings.
