ダン・マッカーシー Dan McCarthy

ダン・マッカーシーはその30年以上のキャリアにおいて国際的に作品を発表しています。ペインティングやドローイングといった平⾯作品と並⾏し制作しているのが、彼のアイコン的な作品である顔のモチーフのセラミックの彫刻作品《Facepot》シリーズです。その鮮やかな⾊合い、豊かな表情、親しみやすさ、プリミティブな感覚、作家の⼿の跡を感じさせる直接性。それらの要素があいまって、視覚的側⾯にとどまらない、⾝体あるいは感情に働きかけるような鑑賞体験を鑑賞者に与えます。

1962年ハワイ・ホノルル⽣まれ。サンフランシスコ・アート・インスティテュートでペインティングとセラミックを学び、1984年にBFAを取得。現在はニューヨークを拠点に制作しています。近年の個展に「7 Bangers」（Anton Kern Gallery、ニューヨーク、2019）、「rainbow paintings & ceramics」（Rodolphe Janssen、ブリュッセル、2021）、「BirdPots」（Baldwin Gallery、アスペン、2022）、「Dan McCarthy」（Rodolphe Janssen、ブリュッセル、2023）が、主なグループ展に「36 Paintings」 (Harper Books、ニューヨーク、2020)、「Pacific Coast Ceramics」 (Galeria Mascota、アスペン、2020)、「Show 1」 (Airfield Gallery、ニューヨーク、2021)などがあります。作品はICA Miami、Aïshti Foundation、ニューヨーク近代美術館、Dakis Joannou Collection、パリ市立近代美術館などに収蔵されています。
